2025 Eurovision Song Contest goes to Austria

Austria has claimed its third Eurovision Song Contest victory, with 24-year-old singer JJ (Johannes Pietsch) winning the 2025 competition in Basel, Switzerland. His genre-blending track “Wasted Love” — a dramatic mix of operatic pop and techno — captured both jury and public support, earning a total of 436 points.

JJ, a Filipino-Austrian countertenor born in Vienna and raised in Dubai, stunned audiences with his rare soprano-range vocals. He co-wrote the winning song with Teodora Špirić and Thomas Thurner, delivering a performance that stood out for its emotional power and theatrical flair. This marks Austria’s first Eurovision win since Conchita Wurst’s iconic 2014 triumph.

With this victory, Austria now celebrates its third Eurovision title, following wins in 1966 and 2014. JJ has announced plans to release his debut EP and expressed excitement about the possibility of Vienna hosting the 2026 contest.
